Qualcomm Inc., shares rose $7 to $90 on Monday when the Chinese government said it would use Qualcomm’s technology in its wireless systems. On Friday the stock closed at $103.25. Inktomi shares climbed $12.50 to $34.44 on Tuesday. The firm won a contract with a satellite company looking to provide high-speed Internet access via satellite. Inktomi closed Friday at $42. Friday was a landmark day for Specialty Laboratories, whose stock rose $7.31 to $23.31 on its first trading day on the New York Stock Exchange.

Hypertension drug Uniprost isn’t going to be the money-maker United Therapeutics was hoping for in 2001. With expected sales of just $10-$20 million instead of the $80 million, the stock tumbled $29.69 to $17.93. It closed the week at $15.93. Also Monday, PC products company ESS Technology reduced its fourth quarter earnings forecast, sending its stock down $4.28 to $5.88. By Friday it had rallied a little, closing at $6.50. Shares in Ask Jeeves Inc dropped $5.88 to $3.81 Friday when the CEO stepped down and the company warned fourth-quarter losses would be higher than expected.
