Adams County Othello

The Boys and Girls Club has asked the city for an additional $8,000 on top of the $12,000 already requested for 2001. The extra money is needed for a planned after-school program. The club took the place of the city-operated recreation department, which cost $47,000 annually. The city council will decide Monday.

Ferry County Republic

Residents are still talking about the Nov. 25 earthquakes that woke them at 2 a.m. Folks north and west of town, along with the entire Okanogan Highlands area, were rattled by three tremors that night. Each had a loud noise, which many thought were sonic booms from airplanes, and had magnitudes of 3.1.

Grant Count Moses Lake

Farmer Scott Lybbert is behind the giant Christmas light displays along Interstate 90 between George and Moses Lake. Large signs proclaiming a “Country Christmas” grace the outskirts of both towns, with the 24 miles in between lit with large candy canes, reindeer, Santa and sleigh, and a semitruck that seems to be moving. The new “Attack of the Snowballs” features two kids throwing snowballs back and forth.

Lincoln County Odessa

At least four more riders are needed for the People For People bus to make Wednesday’s trip to Moses Lake. Those wishing to shop in Moses Lake need to be ready to leave by 9:30 a.m.

Pend Oreille County Newport

After much controversy this fall over job performance and finances, Police Chief Bill Clark seems to be doing fine. City Administrator Delphine Palmer says Clark is meeting requirements set by the mayor and city council. Two areas in the agreement are still under contention - traffic stops and Clark’s status as an exempt or nonexempt employee. These issues will be discussed this week.

Stevens County Colville

Merchants will soon learn the rules for temporary and sidewalk signs. Absent clear regulations, a proposed code change will include size of sign, number allowed each business, distance from street, and length of time a temporary sign can stay.

Whitman County Uniontown

The Idaho-Washington Concert Chorale will perform “A Wondrous Mystery,” its annual Christmas concert, at St. Boniface Church at 8 p.m. Friday. The 75-member chorale will sing a variety of Christmas music. Tickets are $9 in advance or $10 at the door. Call (509) 332-2439.

Benewah County Plummer

Tami Gauthier was employee of the month for October. She is a program technician for the Farm Service Agency and went to Boise Nov. 15 to accept her award.

Bonner County Ponderay

Among Sen. Mike Crapo’s nominations to U.S. military academies are Jarad Balch of Ponderay and Alisha Wolfe of Sagle.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

The Boundary County School District was chosen to receive a $20,000 grant by the USDA for a pilot nutritional program called Team Nutrition.

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

The North Idaho Fair and Rodeo organization’s Web site, www.northidahofair.com, was recently named “2000 Outstanding Home Page” along with five others by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions.

Latah County Potlatch

The Washington, Idaho and Montana Railway Historic Preservation Group has joined forces with the Potlatch Historical Society to restore the 95-year-old Potlatch Depot. A meeting is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Potlatch library to discuss restoration plans drawn by a University of Idaho architecture class.

Shoshone County Smelterville

At the November City Council meeting, Councilmen Rick Hendricks and Mike Smith resigned, both due to work-schedule conflicts, according to Mayor Tom Benson. Hendricks had only served a month. Mark Voss and Dennis Rose were appointed to the council at the same meeting.
