Mls Not A Monopoly

Major League Soccer does not have an illegal monopoly that depresses players salaries, a jury found in the players’ antitrust lawsuit against the league.

The players argued unsuccessfully that the league has not allowed them the freedom to sell their services.

The jury agreed with the league that there was competition for players from other countries and in minor and indoor leagues. And it found Major League Soccer could not have had an illegal monopoly because it didn’t have a monopoly in the market for U.S. soccer or other professional players.

New York-New Jersey MetroStars defender Thomas Dooley announced his retirement, ending a 21-year career that included two World Cups and four seasons in Major League Soccer.
