Christmas Party Planned For Northside School Children
The Mission Community Outreach Center will host a Christmas party for area elementary school children Saturday.
The party for students from Logan, St. Aloysius and Stevens elementary schools will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
For Bemiss, St. Patrick’s and Sheridan elementary school students, the party will be from 2:45-3:45 p.m. Both will be held at the Spokane Community College conference room, 1810 N. Greene Street. Parking is off Mission Avenue southeast of the college in the lot south of the tennis courts.
The free, family event will include live Christmas music, bagpipers, drummers and Scottish dancers. Treats will be given and Santa will make a visit.
Lakeside students plan safe New Year’s bash
Again this year, Lakeside High School’s SADD students will host a drug- and alcohol-free New Year’s Eve bash to give Lakeside students a way to ring in 2001 safely.
“Kids up here need that kind of thing,” said Lakeside Principal Mike Parker.
Once they’re in, students won’t be allowed to leave until morning. The evening will begin at 9 p.m. with a dance. There will be a New Year’s toast with sparkling cider, skits, games and raffles. Food will be provided all night, and breakfast will be served New Year’s Day. The event ends at 6 a.m. and costs $7.
“We want to get lots of kids to come,” said senior Taryn Erickson, in charge of public relations for the Students Against Destructive Decisions group. “If all your friends come, it would be what you’d do at home anyway. We just want to provide a safe alternative to kids going out to parties.”
Now, organizers are collecting donations from area businesses of food, beverages and things to be used for door prizes.
“The more we have, the better,” Erickson said. “We can always give it away, and hopefully it will get more people to come.”
