Alpine skiing/snowboarding

Freeride Institute is coming to Schweitzer on Dec. 28-31. This is a great opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to learn the fundamentals of riding the pipe, launching huge air or ripping the steeps with professional coaches Bob Legasa, Jeff Yates and Teague Mullen, among others.

World extreme skiing champion Chris Davenport will be at Schweitzer to ride and ski with the participants. The cost is $350 which includes instruction, on-hill video analysis, prizes, parties and on-staff pro photographer. The clinic is open to those 10 years old and up with intermediate-advanced ability. The holiday season at 49 Degrees North begins Saturday and runs through Jan. 2 when the mountain will be opened seven days a week. Ski for free Saturday night from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Those interested must pick up a free ski coupon at White’s Outdoors in Spokane.

Learn to ski or snowboard for only $39 through the Mt. Spokane Ski School’s Never-Ever package. The package includes a 1 hours lesson, lift ticket and all-day rental. Lessons are offered daily.

Silver Mountain will be open every day today until Jan. Conditions are good for opening of Chair 4 basin Saturday. Half of the runs are open with more set to open Saturday.

Lookout Mountain is 100 percent open. Today is Boomers Day (40 and over) - $12 for an all-day lift ticket. Also today, a Masters Race Clinic session at noon.

The free “Never-Ever” lesson program, ages 6-18 is offered Saturday. Skiers ages 6-18 will get the basic skills so they can participate in Lookout’s free ski school 10-week program that starts Jan. 6 and runs through March 10. Registration starts at 9-10 a.m. in the lodge. Lessons will be from 10 a.m. to approximately 11:30. Info: 208-744-1301.
