Gas Prices Down In Latest Month

From Staff

Inland Northwest gas prices have dropped since Thanksgiving, making traveling over Christmas and New Year’s more affordable for those willing to brave the weather.

Since Thanksgiving, the price of self-service, regular unleaded gasoline has dropped by 6 cents a gallon - from $1.70 to $1.64 - according to a survey of Eastern Washington and North Idaho gas stations conducted by the Inland Automobile Association. The average premium unleaded price has fallen from $1.88 a gallon to $1.82 a gallon in the past month.

Still, prices are much higher than last year, when self-service, regular unleaded gas was selling for $1.37 a gallon on average.

And current Inland Northwest regular unleaded gasoline prices are 14 cents higher per gallon than the national average of $1.50.

According to AAA estimates, about 60.6 million Americans are expected to travel 100 or more miles from home during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period. Of those, 44.9 million will drive.
