Wrestlers From Northside Schools Earn Six Medals

Success was limited for Spokane area wrestlers at the prestigious Tri-State Tournament in Coeur d’Alene.

Of the 17 medals earned by wrestlers from local leagues, North Side wrestlers earned six.

Lakeside High’s two-time state champion, Kris Matthews, reached the finals at 119 pounds, losing 14-7 to one of Oregon City High’s four finalists.

Matthews was one of just five finalists from either the Greater Spokane, Frontier, Great Northern or Northeast B leagues during the tourney.

Two others, Mead’s T.J. Merrell and North Central’s Ezra Bocook, were semifinalists before finishing sixth at 140 and 189 pounds, respectively.

Also placing sixth were Lakeside’s Adrian Laughery at 152 pounds and Gonzaga Prep’s Pat Bradley at 171.
