Trail Grooming Well Under Way
Shoshone County’s volunteer trail grooming program has been working on the east side of the county for the past few days, the Idaho State Parks and Recreation Department reported.
The following areas have been groomed since Wednesday: from the Mullan Fish Hatchery over Mullan Pass into the Montana warming hut and from the Fish Hatchery up the old railroad grade to Lookout Pass. Montana groomers have completed the area between Lincoln’s 10,000 Silver Dollar Bar to Lookout Pass, and to the warming hut.
After the holidays, the groomer is scheduled to move into the Avery area over Moon Pass.
The Parks Department also warned of unstable and potentially dangerous conditions in the back country.
Unstable slab layers are probably on steep terrain above 5,500 feet on all aspects. Natural avalanches are possible, while human-triggered slides are probable. Travelers in the back country should be aware of potentially dangerous areas of unstable snow, especially the steep and open slopes of more than 30 degrees. Below 5,500 feet, unstable conditions exist in open terrain with little or no anchoring brush. Caution is urged in any open terrain this weekend.
