Once touted as a replacement for VCRs, personal video recorders now appear likely to become a mere feature on a larger system.
One of two pioneers of the “personal TV” revolution already has stopped making PVRs for economic reasons, and the other may follow.
Instead, their features will be built into next-generation cable TV set-top boxes and satellite receivers, which will come with hard drives for recording hours of shows.
