Teamsters Official Loses Re-Election Bid

From Staff

The secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 763 has lost his re-election bid, a development that could affect his leadership roles in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Jon Rabine was defeated by David Reynolds of Vashon Island.

The message on a telephoneanswering machine at Reynolds’ home said he will take office Jan. 1, though no one with the local could be reached over the holiday weekend to confirm that.

Two years ago, Rabine was elected one of three western regional vice presidents, serving under union President James P. Hoffa on the Teamsters’ General Executive Board. The other western regional officials are in California.

Rabine was elected Local 763 vice president in 1970 and has been active in local labor circles since then.

Local 763 represents 4,500 members in Seattle. Rabine also serves as president of Joint Council of Teamsters No. 28, the umbrella organization for area Teamsters locals, with 60,000 members.
