Falcons Capture Liberty’S Tourney

Sprague-Harrington stood on top of the mountain after Travis McPeak’s hefty heave.

McPeak hit a 3-pointer near halfcourt at the buzzer to give S-H a 44-43 win over Liberty in Friday’s title game of the Liberty Christmas Tournament.

On the winning play, the Falcons rebounded a missed Liberty free throw and passed to McPeak, who took three dribbles before launching his shot.

The star of the tourney was the Falcons’ Colin Floyd, who scored 30 to go with the 25 he scored in Thursday’s opener.

Floyd, who hit seven 3-pointers against Liberty, passed 1,000 career points (1,046) during the tourney.

Liberty’s Henry Smith made three 3-pointers to score 19.

Reserve Brock Landrum was one of four players with 11 points as the Lumberjacks topped the Spartans in the consolation game.

St. Maries shot 32 of 54 from the floor while Rosalia hit 21 of 39 from the line.

Kenny Stone hit 8 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter to finish with 19 points, leading the Cougars over the Bulldogs.

Chewelah finished 13 of 15 from the line and committed only six turnovers. Jess Trampush added 11 rebounds for the Cougars.

Chewelah will play for fourth place at 4 p.m. today against White Salmon.

Braden Draggoo scored 20 to lead the Pioneers over the Stags in the tourney semifinal.

Omak finished third at last year’s State 2A Tournament. DP’s Shawn Epler had 10 rebounds. DP again played without top scorer Adam Swinyard (hurt kneecap), who is expected back soon.

DP will play Goldendale at 2 p.m. today for third place.

Colville finished 20 of 28 from the line. Jeremy Payne totaled 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs, and Greg Mace scored seven in the fourth quarter.

L-W hit 21 of 29 free throws, with a 12-for-15 touch in the fourth quarter. Pomeroy pulled within three with 10 seconds left, but Drew Henley hit two free throws 5 seconds later for insurance.
