Adams County

Othello

The county auditor has selected the Othello City Hall as the polling place for the upcoming school maintenance and operating levy. Josie Albin, a bilingual deputy from the auditor’s office, will aid people who need a Spanish interpreter.

Ferry County

Republic

Hundreds of people turned out for activities at the Winterfest celebration. Esther’s Restaurant retained its title for the “Best Chili in Town” in the chili cookoff. The Ferry County Co-op won the outhouse race, and Randy Koontz won the ice fishing derby. Jordan Wakefield, 9, won the kids cross-country ski event, and took second in the adult race.

Delondra Johnson was second runner-up at the state Junior Miss competition. The Mattawa High senior won $1,200 in scholarships.

Lincoln County

Odessa

House Laundry and Dry Cleaning of Moses Lake has discontinued the rural dry cleaning route to Odessa.

Pend Oreille County

Cusick

Longtime Cusick High School football coach Fred Vogel was honored by the Inland Northwest chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Vogel spent 32 years coaching football and retired in 1997.

Air Force Airman Benjamin G. Bowers, son of Elaine T. Cullen and Alan G. Bowers of Chattaroy, has arrived for duty at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Bowers, a Riverside High School graduate, is a fuel-servicing specialist.

Whitman County

Pullman

Four businesses received citations from the Pullman Police Department over the weekend for selling liquor to minors. Officers used two underage WSU police interns to check area businesses and ensure store employees check buyers’ identification before selling liquor. Businesses that were issued citations were Checkpoint Super Center Conoco, Corner Market in the Adams Mall, Midway Grocery and Pete’s Bar and Grill.

St. Maries

Amy Reinhofer and Roddy Brown, St. Maries High School students, will attend an All-State music conference in Idaho Falls in March. Reinhofer plays the baritone saxophone, and Brown is a choir student. At the conference they will attend music classes taught by college professors and perform in a concert.

Sandpoint now has a singing telegram service. Roxy Fuller started “Heartsongs” and sings telegrams and a variety of music for all occasions. Fuller can be reached at (208) 263-6377.

Kootenai County

Coeur d’Alene

Kootenai County commissioners recently approved the renewal of liquor licenses for two local businesses, Tubs Cafe and Kmart. Peaville Produce of Rathdrum was granted a liquor license by the county and now needs Rathdrum’s approval.

Latah County

The Moscow City 2000 Curbside Recycling Calendar is available and can be picked up by residents participating in the program at: Moscow Recycling Center, Moscow City Hall Annex, Moscow Food Co-op, Rosauers, Safeway, Tidyman’s and WinCo Foods.

Shoshone County

Kellogg

Two Silver Valley residents, Leigh Jacobsen and Meg Cox, placed in the Washington State Judo Championships in Kent, Wash. Jacobsen placed first in the men’s lightweight division and Cox took second in the girls’ 13- and 14-year-old division. Both are eligible for the U.S. National Judo Championships in Houston.
