Chess Tournament Saturday

A scholastic chess tournament for kids will be held at Saint George’s School on Saturday.

The “Groundhog’s Gambit” is open for students in kindergarten through 12th grades.

Check in and late registration starts at 9 a.m. and the first round at 10 a.m. in the school’s Coleman House library. The fee is $10 at the door and $7 for USCF members.

Between rounds, chess master and author Robert Snyder will analyze people’s chess game.

Manito Presbyterian open house

Parents of toddlers will be able to scope out Manito Presbyterian Preschool and Kindergarten, 401 E. 30th Ave., at its open house Feb. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. Open registration for the school starts March 15.

The school’s four teachers and new director, Bobbi Bennett-Wolcott, will be on hand to answer questions.
