Commissioners Delay Ruling On Fraser Estates

The proponents of a long-delayed development in the Spokane Valley will have to wait a little longer to see if their project can move forward.

Spokane County commissioners voted Tuesday to postpone a decision on Fraser Estates until next week.

Developers Bob Fraser and Mike Kinney want to build 110 homes on 39 acres just east of Argonne Road and Wellesley Avenue.

They originally proposed 179 homes on 49 acres, but the project was rejected by county commissioners in 1995. The state Supreme Court later upheld the commissioners’ decision.

Last year, Fraser and Kinney came back to the county with the scaled-down proposal.

But the county hearing examiner rejected the project this summer, saying it is not consistent with the county’s comprehensive plan.

Fraser and Kinney again appealed the hearing examiner’s decision to county commissioners.

Neighbors have fought the proposed development from the beginning, saying it would not fit in their otherwise lightly developed neighborhood.
