Governor Visits To Promote Bill

From Staff Reports

Gov. Gary Locke is pitching an education bill in Spokane today that would keep millions of dollars for local education in the counties where the money came from.

The governor will speak at a press conference in the Sheridan Elementary School library, 3737 E. Fifth Ave., from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The event is open to the public.

The proposed Learning Improvement Property Tax Credit (Senate Bill 6470) is pending in the Legislature. The bill would let local communities keep a portion of property taxes normally earmarked for the state treasury to improve their schools. The proposal contains no tax increase.
