Seed Producers Can File For Losses

From Staff

Seed producers who have been doing business with AgriBioTech Inc., which filed for bankruptcy last week, could recoup some of their losses, according to the Washington state Department of Agriculture.

The state holds a $220,000 surety bond on ABT that could provide partial payment to producers who sell, ship or deliver agricultural products for processing or sale.

To file a complaint for losses with the Department of Agriculture, call (360) 902-1854.

“We anticipate there will be many qualified claims and that the value of the bond will not be sufficient to satisfy them all,” said Jerry Buendel, manager of the state Commission Merchant Program.
