Speeding Man Found With Illegal Weapon
Spokane police stopped a motorist who was speeding and passing other cars illegally Saturday morning at Magnesium and Standard streets.
Police found the driver had a fully loaded .45 semi-automatic handgun in the pocket of the driver’s side door and that he had no permit for the concealed weapon, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.
After he took several field sobriety tests and a breath test, Brian L. Hunnicutt, 21, who gave his address as 934 E. Calkins, was cited on a charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon and a charge of driving while intoxicated, Cottam said.
Meth arrest
Spokane police arrested a man wanted on a probation violation Saturday afternoon and found he was carrying methamphetamine.
Officers stopped a pickup at Empire and Nevada streets about 5:15 p.m. The passenger was holding a baby on his lap and had one seat belt around both of them, which is against the law, Cottam said.
The passenger first gave police a false name, but was identified as 25-year-old Melvin L. Ford, who gave his address as 1107 W. Chelan, Cottam said.
Ford was wanted on a warrant by his probation officer. Police found a glass vial containing meth in Ford’s pocket and discovered he was carrying two scales and two syringes, Cottam said.
Ford was booked into jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
More meth
A deformed license plate led to the arrest of a Spokane man last week.
A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy saw a small pickup truck Friday at about 4:30 a.m. at the corner of Highway 2 and Mount Spokane Park Drive with a license plate wrapped to the bumper with wire, and so warped it was illegible.
The deputy discovered the driver had a suspended driver’s license, three prior convictions for driving with a suspended license and four outstanding warrants for his arrest, said sheriff’s spokesman Dave Reagan.
During the arrest, the deputy found a small, clear glass pipe containing a small amount of white powder in the suspect’s jacket, Reagan said. He also found a clear plastic baggie of white powder, which the deputy identified as meth, Reagan said.
Ben Arden Colbert, 28, of 1012 E. Walton, was booked on a charge of possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and taken to jail. The charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, are pending.
