Another Counterfeiting Suspect Arrested

Another suspect was arrested Thursday by Secret Service agents as they continued their crackdown on computer-generated counterfeit money.

Ronald Dale Cable, a 44-year-old carpenter, was arrested at his home at 3318 E. Jackson on federal charges of passing counterfeit money.

Conrad “Smokey” Everett, resident agent in charge of the Spokane office of the Secret Service, said Cable is accused of passing four counterfeit $20 bills.

Cable is alleged to have attempted to use the bills Jan. 1 at the General Store, 2424 N. Division.

A clerk spotted the strange-looking bills, Everett said. A store security officer called Spokane police, and Secret Service agents responded to the store.

A federal arrest warrant for Cable was issued Tuesday after additional investigation by Secret Service agents.

Cable was released on his own recognizance Thursday after an appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cynthia Imbrogno.

The Secret Service has documented 18 other incidents in Spokane of counterfeit bills with the same serial number being used for purchases, Everett said.

The arrest is the latest in a recent string of counterfeiting arrests in Spokane and elsewhere in Eastern Washington.

Three men accused of printing counterfeit money with computer equipment were arrested last week, and other investigations are brewing, Everett said.
