Charges Multiply For Burglary Suspect
A burglary suspect ended up being charged with kidnapping and assault after trying to elude police on Thursday afternoon, according to Spokane police.
Police responded to the 1800 block of West College on a report of burglary in progress at 3:37 p.m., police said.
Officer Corey Turman confronted the suspect, Christian J. Ducrest, 29, in the front yard of the victim’s house, police said. Turman ordered the suspect to the ground at gunpoint. The suspect complied, but when he heard the sirens of backup officers, he got up and ran, police said.
Turman chased the suspect. The suspect accosted a woman standing on the rear porch of her residence several houses away. He pulled her off the porch and ran into her house and picked up a 23-month-old child, police said.
The suspect ran out the front door with the child in his arms and yelled at arriving officers to “get back,” police said. Officers grabbed the suspect as the mother of the child punched him in the back of the head. Police said the suspect released the child and tried to tackle one of the officers. The suspect was subdued by Turman and two backup officers.
Ducrest was booked into jail on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault.
The mother and child suffered minor injuries.
