Short of custodial help due to budget cuts, county commissioners were just offered a half-time custodial assistant for nine months, paid for by Career Path Services.

Ephrata

A group of community churches will provide a free soup lunch every Saturday through March from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Center.

Lincoln County

Davenport

Davenport High seniors are inviting the community to a costume dance to thank them for their support over the years. Music from all eras will be played, and pictures, refreshments and masks will be available. Single folks can dance with a senior for just $1. Tickets are available at the school.

Pend Oreille County

Metaline

The Selkirk School District will run its bi-annual maintenance and operations levy by vote-by-mail only. Ballots must be postmarked by March 14. The levy is for $150,000 per year.

Saint George’s School is sponsoring a scholastic chess tournament Saturday for students in kindergarten through high school. Check-in and late registration starts at 9 a.m. and the first round at 10 a.m. For more information, call 536-4950.

Colville

The Colville High Future Farmers of America group has started Project PALS to give those elementary school kids who need it help with homework or a little extra attention. The FFA students are matched with kids and spend at least one hour per week being a big brother or sister.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre Production will hold auditions for “Rumplestiltskin” at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 at Heyburn Elementary School. Students in all grades are needed for the 50-60 parts. Rehearsal will be throughout the week for the two performances at 3 and 7 p.m., Feb. 19 at the school.

The Community Resource Fair is set for March 18 at the Beardmore Building. The fair is organized by the Community Resource Planning Committee to inform residents of services available in the county. The committee invites organizations that provide health or education services to set up a free booth at the fair. For details call (208) 448-2989.

Fran Giffen is the February Employee of the Month for the Boundary Community Hospital. Giffen is a C.N.A. and has been with the hospital for 14 years.

Kootenai County

Rathdrum

The Rathdrum Chamber of Commerce needs volunteers to help plan the city’s annual community celebration, which includes a street dance, an ugly truck contest and a parade. Jan Hale, one of the organizers, said those interested should attend a meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sports Arena Pizza & Eatery, 1550 State Highway 41.

Mike Kinner is the new information services director for Latah County. He maintains the courthouse computer system, network, telephone and voice mail system and works on special projects such as updating the Web site. Kinner’s annual salary is $38,628.

Shoshone County

Jessica Baldwin, 19, of Post Falls, was reported missing from Silver Mountain about 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday but was found hours later in the West Fork of Big Creek drainage. A groomer and five ski patrol members sent from the resort to search for Baldwin found her. She told Lt. Mitch Alexander of the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Department she didn’t see any out-of-bounds signs and that she’d been caught in a small avalanche. Silver Mountain general manager Terry Turnbow said she’ll be charged for the resort’s expense, as per resort policy. Turnbow said the resort has posted more signs in the area so others won’t make the same mistake.

Libby

The Rev. Manuel “Manny” Borg from the Franciscan Outreach Association in Chicago will explain operation of the organization’s soup kitchen and homeless shelter during a potluck dinner at 6 tonight at St. Joseph Catholic Church parish hall, 719 Utach Ave., in Libby. Borg’s visit was brought about by two visits from Libby residents to the association. In 1997 about 15 youths worked in the soup kitchen and in 1998 eight church women did the same.
