New faces:

Jay Scherer has joined Klundt Hosmer Design as a Web site designer. Scherer, who is a 1999 graduate of the digital design program at Spokane Falls Community College, previously held a Web design position at InterLink Services. He also has 14 years of experience as an artist and musician, recording with several bands. Scherer will produce Web site design and programming development for a variety of corporate clients. His musical background will be utilized in the production and editing of music and audio for Web-based and interactive media.

DigiDeal Corp. has hired Sherry Henry to oversee its accounting and human resources departments. Henry previously worked in the construction industry and most recently was with an electrical contractor in Issaquah, Wash.

Cindy K. Russo has joined DigiDeal Corp. as administrative assistant. She previously worked for Canaan Venture Management, a venture capital firm in Rowayton, Conn. She has six years of experience as an administrative assistant.

Dr. Karl P. Houglum has joined Spokane Digestive Disease Center P.S. for the practice of consulting gastroenterology endoscopic procedures. Houglum received his medical degree from the University of Washington. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of California in San Diego. Houglum, who is board certified in both fields, was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of California San Diego for six years. He has practiced in the Spokane area since 1998.

Martin Hoegl has joined the faculty at WSU Spokane as an assistant professor of management and decision sciences in the master of technology management program. Hoegl earned a Ph.D from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, and an MBA from Washington State University. Most recently, he was a researcher and lecturer at the University of Karlsruhe. He has worked for AT&T Microelectronics in Germany and the United Kingdom and Raschig Corp. in Richmond, Va.

Washington State University at Spokane has named Janet Beary as an assistant professor in the food science and human nutrition graduate program. She will direct the dietetic internship program offered at WSU Spokane. The program allows professionals who already hold a master’s degree to earn the registered dietitian credential. Beary was most recently at Oregon State University. She also owns “Be Veggie, Be Fit,” a vegetarian nutrition counseling service.

Moving up:

Wells Fargo has appointed Marilyn Reeves as market operations analyst. Reeves, who is based in Spokane, is responsible for ensuring high levels of customer service and operational integrity for 10 of Wells Fargo’s banking stores in Spokane and other cities in Eastern and Central Washington. Reeves has worked for Wells Fargo and its predecessor in Spokane (First Interstate Bank) for the past 23 years. Reeves earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Whitworth College, and an AA degree from Spokane Falls Community College.

Potlatch Corp. has appointed Michael W. DeGenring as chief financial officer. DeGenring, who also serves as executive vice president, finance and administration, replaces Sandra T. Powell, who is retiring after 33 years. Powell joined Potlatch as a tax accountant in 1967 and held several positions before being elected vice president, finance, and chief financial officer in 1998. DeGenring joined Potlatch in September 1999 after 21 years with Atlantic Richfield Co., during which he held several senior financial and general management positions.

Greg Cooperrider, who has nearly 20 years of experience in plywood manufacturing, has been named the St. Maries Complex manager for Potlatch Corp. Cooperrider served as Jaype Plywood plant manager since February 1996. Earlier he spent 16 years with Weyerhaeuser and Simpson Lumber. He earned a master’s degree in wood technology from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree from Hiram College in Ohio.

Starting up:

Mail Boxes Etc. has opened a new store at Cedar Canyon Village south of the intersection of 57th and Regal in Spokane. The store is owned and operated by Paul Branham, who also owns a Mail Boxes Etc. store at 29th and Southeast Boulevard. Branham is also president-elect of the local Mail Boxes Etc. franchise owners’ group. The company has nine stores in Spokane and Liberty Lake and more than 4,000 stores located throughout the United States and 60 foreign countries.

Kudos:

Cobra Corp. of Spokane has been named a 1999 Stevens Hall of Fame contractor by Stevens Roofing Systems. The honor recognizes Stevens applicators who install more than 1 million square feet of warranted Stevens roofing membrane during the past three consecutive years. Stevens inducted 41 of its authorized applicators into the Hall of Fame this year.
