Man Critically Hurt In Car-Train Collision

An Athol man is in critical condition after his car collided with a train Friday morning.

Keith A. Moon, 21, was traveling east on Brunner Road in a 1986 Honda Prelude at 8:37 a.m. Moon’s car knocked down a railroad warning sign and he was trying to cross the tracks when it was hit by a northbound train, the Idaho State Police reported.

The train was traveling 43 mph in a 60 mph zone, Trooper Taj Wilkerson said. The impact flipped Moon’s Honda and it came to a rest upside down, police said. Moon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken by helicopter to Kootenai Medical Center, where he was in critical condition late Friday night.
