Mine Project Owners Plan Open House

The new owners of the Rock Creek mine project near Noxon, Mont., will have an open house in Sandpoint. It is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sandpoint Community Hall on First Avenue.

Sterling Mining Co. purchased the Rock Creek and Troy mines from Asarco Mining Co. in October for $20 million.

The Troy mine is closed due to low metal prices. The state of Montana is in the process of reviewing the reclamation bond for that mine.

The Rock Creek mine is a proposed copper and silver mine that would burrow beneath the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness. The U.S. Forest Service and Montana Department of Environmental Quality are preparing a final environmental impact statement on the mine.
