Pickup Hits Woman

From Staff Reports

A man driving a red Toyota pickup made several high-speed runs at a woman crossing a downtown Spokane street Friday night before he knocked her to the ground.

The woman was crossing the street about 8 p.m. at Riverside and Browne with a male companion when a pickup skidded to a stop beside them, Spokane police said.

The man yelled at the driver, who yelled back. The couple told police the driver then backed up and made five high-speed runs at the couple, skidding toward them each time. The last time, the pickup hit the woman on a leg and knocked her down. The motorist then drove away.

The pickup was described as a mid-1980s Toyota 4X4 with silver stripes on the sides.

Two Spokane Fire Department employees heard the truck’s engine revving and its tires spinning. They went outside and found the injured woman, who was treated at the scene.

The victims were intoxicated, police said.
