Stephen Simon Accepted At Westtown School
Stephen Simon, has been accepted to attend Westtown (Pa.) School, the oldest co-ed boarding school in the United States. It was founded in 1799.
Simon, son of Cathy and Charles Simon, Spokane, was one of the few students accepted into the sophomore class. He will complete this academic year on the Chester County campus.
Simon is a participant in the Johns Hopkins University Institute for the Academic Advancement of Youth. In 1998 he received state and national awards for being among the top national SAT scorers in the eighth grade. During the summers of 1998 and 1999, he was accepted into a national College Gifted Programs Summer Institute at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma.
Jake Freeman, a student at Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene, received the Harry LeMoyne Award “for going beyond the game” by excelling in academics, leadership and service to community, as well as athletics.
Freeman, son of Patti and Tom Freeman, is a 4.0 grade-point average student and is active in football, track, student government, sportsmanship committees, Youth Volunteers in Action, Idaho Drug Free Youth and audio/visual arts.
Kelli Gabourie was named Student of the Month for December by the Post Falls Rotary.
Gabourie has a grade-point average of 3.40 and is senior class vice president and a member of the National Honor Sorority and Key Club.
The daughter of Shari and Fred Gabourie, Post Falls, she plans to attend Eastern Washington University next year to study to become a nurse practitioner.
The Civil Air Patrol, Spokane Squadron, has promoted four cadet NCO members. The members and their ranks are:
Jessica Braskett, daughter of Karla and Jeff Braskett, Spokane; William Campbell IV, son of Sherry and Bill Campbell, Cheney; and Scott Petersen, son of Keri and Rick Petersen, Cheney, all cadet technical sergeant.
L.J. Mitchell, son of Elisha and Lonnie Mitchell, Spokane, cadet master sergeant.
To be promoted, cadets must take written tests in aerospace education and leadership, demonstrate aspects of physical fitness and participate in moral leadership classes.

Teea Stutheit, daughter of Tina and Marty Stutheit, sophomore.
Students are selected by Lakeland High School teachers based on a willingness to follow instructions, having a positive attitude, demonstrating concern for others, showing an interest in studies, demonstrating an ability to accept and benefit from criticism, and being involved inside and outside of class activities.
