Truck Called Gift

Two men who claimed the truck they were driving was a gift from “Jim” and “Bob” were taken into custody after a routine traffic stop early Sunday, Spokane police said.

Police stopped the driver of the 1983 Ford pickup about 4:30 a.m. near Ermina and Greene, a written news release said.

The driver had no license and couldn’t find the car’s registration, police said. He and a male passenger told officers that Jim and Bob had given them the truck at the Bend Restaurant, 2721 N. Market, police said.

Officers noted the steering column was damaged and a jammed key was sticking out of the ignition.

Police contacted the pickup’s owner, whose girlfriend works at the Bend and had driven the truck to work. She didn’t know the truck was missing, police said. The owner’s name wasn’t Jim or Bob.

Frank James Icard, 28, of Deer Park, and Kevin P. Hroner, 36, of Spokane, were booked into jail for allegedly taking the truck, police said.

Icard also faces a charge of driving with a suspended license, and Hroner faces a charge of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
