Ben Woodard’s 8-foot jumper with 25 seconds left Tuesday night lifted Cheney to a 54-52 win over visiting West Valley in a crucial Border League game.

Cheney’s win means the league is likely to end in a three-way tie for the championship among Cheney, WV and Lake City.

Cheney swept WV this season. The teams could meet up to three times before the state tournament.

The Bears (10-8, 8-8) defeated the visiting Bengals (10-9, 8-9) in their attempt to nail down the No. 2 seed to the A-1 Region I tournament. No details were reported.

Non-league Falls Christian 62, Lakeside 58 Ben Danforth scored a career-high 23 points, hitting 9 of 15 from the field, and added six steals to lead the Eagles over the visiting Knights at Post Falls.

FCA’s Scott Jackson made 5 of 8 3-pointers.
