Moving On, Moving In

Nils Rosdahl The Spokesman-Revi

One of North Idaho’s historic companies, Coeur d’Alene Insurance, will write a new chapter when it moves to a new location.

The move to a new office building in the northwest corner of Government Way at Davidson Avenue is planned for May, upon completion of the 6,000-square-foot building. Coeur d’Alene Insurance will have one of three 2,000-square-foot suites, expanding from 1,100 square feet at 816 Sherman Ave., its home for 13 years.

Although Coeur d’Alene Insurance began in 1922, its parent company was Rossi Insurance, which started in Wallace in 1895. The company is headed by co-presidents Wally Goodsen, a third-generation insurance professional, and Mike Murray, both Silver Valley natives.

The company, which has eight employees, offers major brands of personal and commercial insurance, including home and automobile insurance. Phone 6670-9421.

The new building, owned by developer Dave Schreiber of Coeur d’Alene, was designed by Miller Stauffer Architects and is being built by Contractors Northwest Inc.

Mattress Land is the first non restaurant tenant to land in the large space formerly occupied by the Thai Palace Restaurant in Appleway Square, 501 W. Appleway in Coeur d’Alene.

The company, owned by James Smith of Fresno, Calif., offers the Sealy, Spring Air and Simmons brands. Running the Coeur d’Alene outlet are Phil Schwamb and T.J. Farmer.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 10 to 6 Saturdays and 11 to 6 Sundays. Phone 676-1766.

Next to Mattress Land, in another space that was part of the original Appleway Square restaurant location, is Wireless USA, which offers major-brand cellular phone sales and service.

Owned by Brian Grant and Rick Bishop, who also have stores in Hayden and Spokane, the company sells GTE, Nextel, VoiceStream, AT&T and Dish Network products. Kelsey Hood is store manager with a staff of four. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Phone 664-2478.

Massage therapy is provided by four specialists who are new to the Mullan Professional Building, 212 S. 11th St. in Coeur d’Alene.

Cathy Kraus and Lydia Benson, both recent graduates of the American Institute of Clinical Massage, have started Bodywork Associates, while Jeri LaForce Sahlin and LaWanna DeGraff have moved their Choice Therapies business from Ironwood Drive.

Open by appointment, the women offer traditional Swedish massage, injury work, acupressure, sports massage, hydrotherapy and aroma therapy. Gift certificates are available. Phone Bodywork Associates at 676-0561 and Choice Therapies at 664-0434.

A four-station, 5,000-square-foot service bay will open at R & L RV Sales & Service, 10789 Highway 95, Hayden, by April. The current 2,400-square-foot shop will become a showroom for the 13-year-old company, located on 3.5 acres.

The expansion is a response to doubling business in the past two years, said Bob McSherry, manager. The company’s 13 employees sell and service RVs, travel trailers, fifth-wheels, campers and motor homes. Owners are Ron and Laurie Morey, who came to North Idaho in 1984 from Loveland, Colo. Phone 772-7634.
