Eels Fall Off Truck, Make Mess On Road
Two barrels of live eels fell off a truck, making a mess in downtown Coos Bay on Wednesday evening. “They covered about 50 feet of roadway,” said Coos Bay police dispatcher Daphne Layton.
Fortunately, the road wasn’t busy, she said.
The eels were about a foot in length, “and they didn’t smell very good,” she said. It wasn’t known what kind of eels they were, or where they’d been caught, but she said they were bound for a processing plant and shipping overseas.
It took the truck driver and officers more than an hour to get them back into the barrels.
“It was my first eel call,” Layton said. “Actually, I think it was everybody’s first eel call.”
