Infiniti Updates I30

Infiniti produces a 10th Anniversary Q45 and madeover I30.

The 2000 I30 gets sheet metal revisions and picks up 37 new horsepower thanks to a new Nissan Variable Induction System. The smooth-running 3-liter V-6 is now rated at 227 hp.

The I30 is longer this year and rides on a longer wheelbase, so ride comfort is up and so is interior space, most notably in the rear seat area.

On the outside, there’s an aggressive new chrome grille. Larger wheels and redesigned taillights give the I30 a more dynamic visage.

The Q45 Anniversary Edition is based on the capable and comfortable Touring Model. Highlights include special badging, interior embroidery and unique ignition key. There’s also bird’s-eye maple wood trim, one-touch windows and sunroof and an optional navigation system.

Exterior upgrades include body-color door handles, automatic headlamps and alloy wheels.

The Q45 continues to get its power from a 266-hp 4.1-liter V-8 which, for ‘00, gets a new 100,000-mile tuneup interval.

At the other end of the Infiniti scale, the G20 benefits this year from a five-hp bump to 145 ponies. Both the manual and automatic transmissions get new gear ratios and an optional Vehicle Communication System. Standard features include ABS, premium audio and side-impact airbags up front. Options include a touring suspension, automatic transmission and leather interior.
