Legacy And Outback New This Year
Subaru revamps its lineup this year with new nomenclature, new sheet metal and a new base engine for its flagship Legacy and Outback models.
The Legacy and midsize Outbacks now get as standard equipment the 165-hp 2.5-liter flat four engine that was optional last year. It can be paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. The Outback Limited is available with automatic only.
The Legacy and Outback are larger this year with a more spacious interior. The Outbacks, with their increased ride height, will continue to be marketed to the outdoors crowd.
The new exterior features a more aggressive look. A new front fascia and hood feature a sleeker headlamp package.
The Impreza Outback Sport wagon picks up a couple of decklid spoilers and other cosmetic changes to distinguish it from its Impreza cousins. Like the midsize, Legacy-based Outback, the Outback Sport has slightly higher ground clearance.
The Forester and the Impreza 2.5RS sport sedan get a new viscous limited-slip rear differential.
