Modest Changes For Jeep This Year

The Jeep family roars into 2000 with modest revisions.

The venerable 4-liter PowerTech pushrod in-line six receives engineering upgrades meant to reduce both emissions and noise. It now meets U.S. low emission vehicle (LEV) standards and it’s mated with an allnew five-speed manual transmission.

The Cherokee Limited model gets bright chrome accents and new sparkle-silver 16-inch wheels. To satisfy sunbelt demand, the Grand Cherokee 4.7-liter PowerTech V-8 is now available as a two-wheel-drive model. In snow-country, the 4.7-liter can now be ordered with Jeep’s Selec-Trac fulltime, four-wheel drive system.

The sporty, go-anywhere Wrangler has a new five-speed manual gearbox along with an extensively reengineered 4-liter PowerTech in-line six-cylinder engine.
