Sheriff Says He’Ll Run For Re-Election
Kootenai County Sheriff Rocky Watson announced on Friday he will seek re-election this fall.
Watson has served since June after former Sheriff Pierce Clegg retired.
Watson served one term as sheriff in the late 1970s and runs a private security firm that has contracts with Kootenai County.
Watson says he plans to expand a community policing program now in Hayden to the rest of Kootenai County. He also said he wants to continue to expand the jail’s inmate labor program.
Watson said he is continuing to review the possibility of privatizing jail functions and increase volunteers to help with services. Both would help reduce costs, he said.
Post Falls investigator and polygrapher Ted Pulver has also announced he will run for the position.
