Manufacturing scholarships are available to three high school seniors who want to pursue two-year degrees in manufacturing technology through the Community Colleges of Spokane or North Idaho College. The $1,500 scholarships are available through the Kaiser Aluminum Manufacturing Technology and Skilled Crafts Endowment. Peers Advocating Communication and Empowerment (PACE) is a peer education program featuring local high school and college students performing a play about the realities of being a teenager. PACE will perform at schools, conferences, churches and training sessions for free. To book a performance or join the group, call 324-1527.

The 2000 Colgate Youth for America campaign is under way and winning projects by local clubs will receive cash grants up to $2,000 each. Local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, Girls Incorporated, Camp Fire and 4-H clubs may submit outstanding community service projects. Past winning projects focused on topics ranging from environmental improvement to violence prevention and baby-sitting programs for special needs children.

Entry forms are available online at www.colgate.com (click on “youth activities”) or by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Colgate’s Youth for America, P.O. Box 1058, FDR Station, New York, NY 10150-1058. The deadline for entries is March 31.

Cool kids who don’t smoke are wanted as part of a national scholarship campaign called “TeenH.I.P. Awards” (Teens Helping Influence People).

Ten students will receive $10,000 scholarships based on their commitment and participation in extracurricular activities and their resolve to not smoke. One grand-prize winner will be flown with a friend and a parent or guardian to a secret location to have lunch with a surprise celebrity. Winners will be announced in June.

Youth between ages 8 and 18 can log on to the Web site www.buttoutnow.com to download an application. Entries must be postmarked by April 15. TeenH.I.P. is sponsored by the Lorillard Tobacco Company’s Youth Smoking Prevention Program.
