Benefit Association Holding Fund-Raiser

From Staff Reports

The Spokane Police Beneficial Association is holding its annual fund-raising event, and residents may receive phone calls from fund-raisers selling tickets to a charitable basketball game.

The association, which is not a Police Department agency, raises money for the Brian Orchard Scholarship Fund. It provides college funds for children of police officers. Officer Brian Orchard was the last Spokane police officer killed in the line of duty.

The basketball game, which will pit the Harlem Clowns against a team of law enforcement officers, is slated for May 30 at the East Valley High School gymnasium.

The phone solicitations, which will be made over the next several weeks, are not on behalf of the Spokane Police Department, which receives nothing from the fund-raising effort.
