Group Tries To Stop Book

An Islamic advocacy group is trying to stop a schoolbook publisher from distributing a novel about a 15-year-old Muslim girl’s role in a terrorist bombing, contending it contains inaccurate, offensive and stereotypical references to Muslims. “The Terrorist,” published by Scholastic Inc., tells the story of Laura, an American student at a private school in London who seeks to avenge her 11-year-old brother’s killing by 15-year-old Jehran. The plot reveals the Muslim girl wanted a U.S. passport to escape “the lviing death” of a Muslim marriage to a man in his 50s. The novel, first released by Scholastic in 1997, is aimed at children 12 and older.
