Logan Area Asking For Minipark

Neighbors in Logan are hoping to acquire land north of Foothills Drive to be used as a 2- to 3-acre minipark.

The Logan Neighborhood Steering Committee is asking for the Spokane Park Board’s approval for the minipark, proposed for northeast of Dakota at Fairview.

Jennette Harras from the Logan steering committee, told the park board’s land committee that a minipark is needed in the neighborhood because of the influx of families moving to the area.

“Kids don’t have a major park that they can go to without crossing a major arterial,” Harras said.

Paul Crutchfield, administrative assistant for the park board, is investigating alternatives to the site, if any exist.

“This may be the only area available,” Crutchfield said.

The patch of land on Fairview has a willing seller, Harras said. Community Development funds would be used to purchase the land although a price has not yet been discussed.

If the site is approved, Harras said the steering committee will work with the park board to draw a general blueprint. Logan neighbors are hoping for basic amenities such as playground equipment, a basketball court, benches and open space for play.

“The idea is to have a park within walking distance that meets the need of the people who live in the area,” Harras said.
