Lind

The Pages of Harmony will perform a barbershop chorus Feb. 27 to benefit the Lind Senior Center and Adams County Historical Society. The show starts at 3 p.m. in the high school gym. Tickets are $10 and performers include harmonious performances by Ovation, Just for Today and The Ginger Snaps.

Ferry County

Republic

As snow and ice melt annually force the county to restrict the weight of trucks on delicate roadways. Although the county usually issues special permits for area businesses needing to haul above the weight limit, it is considering limiting the permits to two per business.

Grant County

Ephrata

If January utility bills seem higher than usual, it’s because usage is up and its a longer-than-usual billing period, according to the county Public Utility District. The PUD has taken several inquiries wondering if an error, or rate increase has taken place.

Lincoln County

Creston

Because recent tests showed an excessive level of nitrates in the city water system, people with young children are urged to buy bottled drinking water. The Environmental Protection Agency says too much nitrate can be harmful to small kids.

Spokane County

Cheney

A car smashed through Kopy Kats, 1921 First St., on Feb. 6, causing an estimated $50,000 in damage. Customers, employees and the driver were shaken but not injured. Police suspect faulty brakes.

Stevens County

Kettle Falls

The local high school jazz band will perform at the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Feb. 23-26. The group will join nearly 17,000 high school music students from the Pacific Northwest who perform and compete at the annual event.

Whitman County

The Pullman Chamber of Commerce board of directors voted Wednesday to endorse all three of the Pullman School District bond and levy issues on the Feb. 29 ballot. At issue are the replacement maintenance and operations levy, a bond for reconstructing Lincoln Middle School and updating safety and accessibility at Pullman High School and a six-year technology levy. A group of community volunteers working to promote school district issues has set up a website for voters to access information about the ballot measures. The six-member Cadette Girl Scout Troop is planning a trip to Mexico in two years. Fund-raisers are in the works to help cover expenses. While in Mexico the girls will help build a house or a kindergarten.

Bonner County

The Bonner County Road Department has posted road restrictions on many more roads in the county so they aren’t damaged by thawing temperatures. South of the Long Bridge all roads except Poirier and Blanchard cut-off have restricted hauling, permitted only between midnight and 9 a.m. All roads south of the river except Rena and Womack are restricted.

Bonners Ferry

The Head Start program needs volunteers who wish to help 4-year old children with reading and during play time. Volunteers may be asked to help with classroom preparation work and kitchen duties also. To volunteer call Christi Kramer at (208) 267-5756.

The Disability Action Center’s Annual Disability Resource Fair will be held 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Lake Mall. The event titled “ A Tribute to our Disabled Presidents” honors presidents who have served with disabilities and Presidents Day. Kootenai County Health District, the MS Society, Head Start and other organizations will exhibit disability-related services and products.

Recently the investment software company Equis International taped a commercial at the home of Steve Karnish. Karnish runs his investment business, Cedar Creek Trading, from his rural Potlatch home. He has been testing the company’s Metastock program since 1988. Karnish will also be featured in ads in the magazines Futures and Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities.

Gov. Dirk Kempthorne has named Shoshone County Commissioner Sherry Krulitz to the state Judicial Council. The council makes recommendations to the governor for district or appeals court judge positions and makes recommendations in matters of disciplinary or retirement actions concerning judges.

Libby

A Junior National qualifying cross-country ski race will be held Saturday and Sunday for racers in the Pacific Northwest. Races will start at 10 a.m. both days on the South Flower Creek cross-country ski trails, south of Libby. Racers 14 to 19 years old need to qualify in six of eight qualifying races to compete at the Junior National championships.
