Shaquala Williams scored 18 points and had six steals on Thurs- day night as Oregon beat Washington State 73-68 at Pullman.

Brianne Meharry added 12 points off the bench for Oregon.

The loss was the fifth in a row for WSU (4-18, 1-11 Pac-10), which is off to its worst start in conference play since the 1986-87 team opened its Pacific-10 Conference schedule 0-12.

Alke Dietel led Washington State with 16 points. Jen Kerns added 14 points and six assists for the Cougars. Yvonne Volkman scored 12.

The Bengals closed in on a berth in the Big Sky Conference tournament, reducing their magic number to one.

One more win by second-place Idaho State (11-13, 9-4) or one loss by Northern Arizona will extend the Bengals’ season. Northern Arizona defeated Montana State 73-56. Also, Cal State Northridge upset league-leading Montana 65-49.

Julie Moore led EWU with 14 points. Allie Bailey scored 13 and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Chris Urbanski scored 26 points, making 6 of 8 from 3-point distance, for Idaho State.
