Group Leaving Tavern Robs Newspaper Vendor

A woman loading newspaper street racks near Jack and Dan’s Tavern at Sharp and Hamilton was robbed Friday morning, according to Spokane Police.

The woman was filling the racks around 2 a.m. when about 15 men came out of the tavern and asked her for a newspaper. When she refused, one of them pushed her against the newspaper rack and demanded money from the box.

Another male took a bundle of about 30 papers from inside the woman’s car and started to walk away. One member of the group yelled at him to return the papers, but he kept on walking.

The group walked onto the Gonzaga University campus and out of sight, the woman told police.

The man who took the papers was called “Billy” and was described as being in his late 20s, about 5-feet-8 inches tall. He had dark hair and was unshaven.

The other man also had dark hair and was unshaven. He was slightly shorter, in his late 20s and about 160 pounds.
