8-Year-Old Boy Hit Twice By Car

From Staff Reports

An 8-year-old boy was hit twice Sunday morning by a car that had been parked illegally on a sidewalk, Spokane police said.

The boy suffered several cuts but no serious injuries, according to a written release from police. He was listed in satisfactory condition at a local hospital.

Police described the accident this way:

At 11:45 a.m., the boy was sitting on the sidewalk by his home on East Cataldo near Hogan, adjusting his Rollerblades. Down the street, two people got into a 1988 Ford Escort that was parked on the sidewalk.

The driver began to back up the car, and it struck the boy, knocking him flat. The driver pulled forward and the boy was hit again.

The couple heard someone screaming, found the boy and called 911.

The boy’s collarbone was injured, and he suffered deep cuts to the back of his head and above his left eye as well as cuts to his right eye, right knee and right hand.

The female driver has not been cited. The investigation will continue while police wait for results from blood and other tests, police said.

The test results won’t be back for 10 to 14 days.
