American film director Milos Forman won the “Silver Bear” award for best director for “Man on the Moon,” the story of the late comedian Andy Kaufman, at the 50th Berlin Film Festival on Sunday. Meanwhile, “Magnolia,” the star-studded American film chronicling a day in the life of a Los Angeles suburb, took the top award among 21 competing films. Denzel Washington was named best actor for his portrayal of a boxer wrongly accused of murder in “The Hurricane.” Best actress honors went to Bibiana Beglau and Nadja Uhl for their roles in “The Legends of Rita,” a German movie about former terrorists living in exile in East Germany.
