Dave’S Back In The Chair
David Letterman’s return to the airwaves Monday generated heart-stopping Nielsen ratings. His CBS “Late Show with David Letterman” lured its third-largest audience for a regular telecast in the program’s seven-year history. CBS estimated that 19 million people watched at least a part of the show and that 12 million people watched the entire program. That’s up from about 3.96 million who normally tune in. Monday night’s program was Letterman’s first time on the air since he underwent quintuple heart bypass surgery last month. The show was taped Friday. Preliminary Nielsen ratings indicate “Late Show with David Letterman” was up 166 percent from its seasonal average. The ratings were double what “The Tonight Show” did on NBC.
