Second Man Named In Canoe Accident
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Department identified James Hazelwood, 38, as the second man who died in a canoeing accident on the Spokane River last week. Hazelwood had family in the Camas, Wash., area. Divers have not been able to recover his body.
Hazelwood and two others from the Union Gospel Mission in Spokane were canoeing near Little Falls Dam, 25 miles north of Spokane, when their boat tipped over Thursday.
Bradley J. Ewing died after being pulled to the riverbank. A third man, David T. Doud, was able to swim to shore and muster help. He was the only survivor.
Deputy Tom Mattern with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office dive team said another attempt to locate Hazelwood’s body could be made later this week.
