Ferris Chooses Year’S First Lilac Princess

The first of this year’s 13 Lilac Festival princesses was chosen Wednesday night.

Kristal Klein, 18, will represent her school on the 2000 Lilac Festival Royal Court. She is the daughter of Jerry and Linda Klein and was among seven competing for the title.

Klein is a member of the National Honor Society, the captain of the Ferris cheerleading squad, a tutor at Hamblen Elementary School and participates in Ferris’ Link, an orientation program that teams seniors with incoming freshmen. She plans to attend Washington State University to study education.

Gonzaga Prep holds the next princess ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Monday. One of the Lilac princesses will be named queen April 15 at Shadle Park High School.
