Two Youth Groups Plan Dinner/Auctions
Spokane Valley church youth are raising money with two separate dinner-and-auction events next Saturday.
The youth group at Pines Baptist Church will start serving prime rib at 4 p.m. next Saturday. A silent auction will run until 6 p.m., when the live auction begins.
More than 200 items will be on the auction block at the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. A silent auction will run until 7 p.m., when the live auction begins.
At Pines Baptist, 714 S. Pines Road, items up for bid include a Thomas Kincaid painting, skiing packages at Schweitzer and Silver mountains, a prom night package (including tux, dress and limo), a golf package, hand-made bird houses, airline tickets, house cleaning, quilts, tickets to the Spokane Symphony and a cruise of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Tickets to the dinner cost $10 per person and must be purchased in advance by calling the church office at 928-7880. Admission to the auction is free. Proceeds from the event will benefit a youth mission trip scheduled for July.
Mardi Gras is the theme for the ninth annual auction and dinner put on by the youth at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 10422 E. Main.
Items up for bid include a lifetime of alignments for your car, a grandfather clock, a Stoneridge resort package, a painting by local artist Anne Sherrodd, an Italian spaghetti dinner for 10, a six-room doll house complete with furniture, a new Schwinn bike based on a 1955 design, a scenic flight, software installation and a cruise on Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Tickets for the dinner are $6 for adults and $3 for children age 6-12. Children under age 6 eat for free. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling the church office at 924-7262. Proceeds from the event will benefit various youth projects.
World Day of Prayer service
Friday is the World Day of Prayer and will be celebrated with a special worship served at 1 p.m. at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road.
This year’s ecumenical service was written by women in Indonesia and focuses on the theme “Talitha Kumi: Young Woman, Stand Up!”
The World Day of Prayer is sponsored by Church Women United and is observed around the country.
Speaker at Valley Assembly
The Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway, will host a guest speaker during its 6 p.m. worship service Sunday.
The Rev. Tom Starr was a pastor at Valley Fourth Memorial Church before starting Maranatha Bible Church in Otis Orchards four years ago.
