Suspect Jumps Into River

Suspect jumps into river Police arrested a Spokane man early Friday after he jumped into the Spokane River in an attempt to escape from officers.

Luke David Beebe, 21, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of residential burglary and escape as well as several outstanding warrants.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 2500 block of South Riverton about 12:15 a.m. Friday after a woman reported that a man had attempted to break into her residence, police said.

One officer arrested and handcuffed the man while another went to talk with the victim. The man then bolted toward the riverbank and jumped in, police said.

The man was swept away by the current and ended up on a north riverbank, where officers picked him up.

The man’s body temperature had dropped several degrees and officers reported that his blood alcohol content was more than 2-1/2 times the legal limit. He was examined at a local hospital before being booked into jail, police said.
