Heart Surgery Center Ok’D For Tri-Cities

A judge has approved a deal to open a heart surgery center in the Tri-Cities.

The decision ends more than three years of waiting and arguing for state permission by Kadlec Medical Center in Richland and Kennewick General Hospital. The center is planned for Richland, but both hospitals would cooperate to manage it.

Now the real work begins, Richland cardiologist Glen Zuroske said.

The two hospitals have drawn up a contract with Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates of Spokane to supply surgeons and train other staff. The hospitals are working toward opening this summer.
