New faces:
Kevin W. Roberts and Matthew T. Ries have joined the law offices of McCormick, Dunn & Black P.S. as associates. Roberts received a bachelors degree in 1993 from Pacific University and is a 1999 graduate of the University of Idaho College of Law. He will concentrate on construction law, employment law and litigation. Ries, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Carroll College in 1996 and a law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law this year, will focus on construction law and litigation.
Dr. Adam Vance has joined First Care Chiropractic in Coeur d’Alene.
Vance, who previously practiced in Australia, earned a bachelor’s degree in human biology and is a graduate of the Logan College of Chiropractic.
New additions to the staff of Zak Designs Inc. include:
Lisa Recek was named sales director for Selandia, Zak Designs’ gift division. Her responsibilities include developing and growing business in the independent gift class of trade. She previously worked for Precidio, where she spent three years as national sales manager. Recek, who received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from C.W. Post College in Greenvale, N.Y., has more than 13 years of experience in the housewares industry.
Barbara Skyer was hired as showroom manager. She will manage the company’s new Selandia showroom in New York and will provide sales support to Lisa Recek, the new Selandia division sales director. Skyer previously was showroom manager for Inspirado Designs. Earlier, she spent five years as showroom manager and assistant to the vice president at G.Z. Lefton Co.
Al Hayes was named eastern regional sales director for Selandia. He will oversee sales and account development in the eastern region of the United States. Hayes previously spent nine years with Regal Ware Inc., a cookware and small appliance manufacturer. Before that, he spent 17 years with National Presto Industries.
Moving up:
ALSC Architects P.S. has promoted the following staff members to associate level:
Terri Parkin, the firm’s marketing manager, has been with ALSC for 16 years. Her responsibilities include proposal and interview preparation, advertising and public relations. She has helped to secure several major projects for ALSC, including the new Washington State University Art Museum.
Doug Kasman, a 1980 graduate of the University of Idaho, has been with ALSC for seven years. Recent projects he has worked on include the Whitworth College Science Building remodel, the Spokane Falls Community College Fitness Center addition, the Spokane Community College Wellness Center and several projects for Spokane County.
D. Paige George, who has been with ALSC for six years, received a master’s degree in architecture in 1989 from the University of Virginia. Projects she has been involved with include the award-winning Preston Hall Junior High School renovation in Waitsburg, Coldwater Creek’s new Seattle store, two elementary schools for Pullman School District and the new Spokane Valley YMCA.

David Swarat of Re/Max Masters has been installed as president of the Coeur d’Alene Trader’s Club for the year 2000. Other officers include: Glenn Sather, Hope Realty, vice president; and Craig Hunter, Prudential Acuff NW, secretary/ treasurer.
John Lugviel has been elected president of the ZLand.com Franchise Advisory Council, which represents franchisees in 29 offices nationwide. His role is to represent the business interests of ZLand.com franchisees, as well as provide a link between the franchisees and ZLand.com’s corporate headquarters. Lugviel has more than 26 years of sales and marketing experience. Prior to opening ZLand.com, he held several key positions with Spectra Physics, Output Technology Corp., Key Tronic and IBM.

Marketing Dynamics, a home based marketing and business operations consulting firm operated by Gene and Stacy Baker, was named a finalist for the Washington Family Business of the Year by the Family Enterprise Institute of the School of Business at Pacific Lutheran University. More than 200 family-owned businesses throughout Washington were nominated and 19 were selected as finalists. The Bakers, along with their sons Brenton, age 12, and Cameron, 10, who work for the business, received a 1999 Agora Award for business excellence from the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce.
