Slides Close Section Of U.S. 101
Rocks, trees and mud cascaded onto U.S. 101 Saturday, closing the coastal highway to all traffic 10 miles north of Florence.
Oregon Department of Transportation officials say conditions are very unstable, and it’s uncertain when crews can start clearing the debris.
This winter, the stretch of the highway has been the site of frequent slides. It was closed Thursday and for most of Friday, briefly passable late Friday and then shut down again Saturday.
